The Generate Keywords button on the Keywords dashboard is your control center for expanding and strengthening your keyword strategy. Instead of relying on a single approach to finding keywords, SEO Rocket offers five methods, each designed for a specific use case.
You’ll find the Generate Keywords button at the top of the Keywords page. Clicking it opens a dropdown menu with multiple keyword generation options. Each option adds keywords directly into your workspace, fully enriched with live SEO data.
This approach lets you build a well-rounded keyword list using manual ideas, AI discovery, competitor insights, and real performance data from your own content.
Why Add Keywords?
When you first complete onboarding, SEO Rocket builds a high-quality keyword list customized for your niche, business, and competitors. But sometimes you’ll want to include your own ideas — and that’s exactly what this feature is for.
You might add keywords because:
You already know specific search terms your audience uses.
You want to test new topics, products, or campaign ideas.
You’ve found opportunities our AI may have missed.
Add Keywords
What This Does
This option lets you manually add keywords or generate related keywords from your own ideas. It is the most flexible and hands-on way to bring keywords into SEO Rocket.
How It Works
When you select Add Keywords, a modal opens with two available modes:
Add Your Keywords
Enter exact keywords you already know you want to target
Keywords can be separated by commas or entered one per line
You can also upload a CSV or TXT file
Keywords appear as visual tags before submission
Get New Keywords
Enter one or more seed keywords
SEO Rocket finds related keyword ideas automatically
Great for expanding a small list into a larger opportunity set
Before adding anything to your workspace, SEO Rocket validates the keywords and prepares them for enrichment.
When to Use It
Use this option when you already have keyword ideas from:
Client input
Google Search Console
Paid ads
Brainstorming sessions
Existing marketing campaigns
Topic Cluster
What This Does
Topic Cluster generates approximately 20 semantically related keywords from a single topic or seed keyword. This is designed to help you build topical authority instead of writing isolated blog posts.
How It Works
Enter a single topic or seed keyword, such as “digital marketing”
SEO Rocket analyzes the topic using AI
A cluster of closely related keyword ideas is generated
Results appear in a preview screen with full SEO metrics
You choose which keywords to add to your workspace
Each keyword is enriched with:
Search volume
Difficulty
Opportunity level
CPC
When to Use It
This feature is ideal when:
You want to build multiple articles around one core topic
You are planning a content hub or pillar strategy
You want structured coverage instead of random keywords
Expand Keywords
What This Does
Expand Keywords takes keywords you already have and turns them into long tail variations and related phrases. It helps you uncover hidden opportunities based on what you are already targeting.
How It Works
Select one or more existing keywords from your list
Configure expansion options such as:
Including question-based keywords
Including location-based variations
Minimum search volume
Maximum difficulty
Minimum and maximum word count
Maximum results per seed keyword
Total result limit
SEO Rocket expands those keywords
Results are filtered, scored, and shown in a preview
You select which expanded keywords to add
When to Use It
Use Expand Keywords when:
You want more mileage from keywords you already trust
You are targeting long tail SEO traffic
You want easier ranking opportunities
You want question-style keywords for informational content
Generate from Competitors
What This Does
Generate from Competitors finds keywords your competitors are already ranking for. This gives you direct insight into what is working in your niche right now.
How It Works
Choose competitors from your saved list or add temporary competitor domains
SEO Rocket validates and normalizes competitor URLs
The system analyzes competitor rankings
Keywords they rank for are retrieved and scored
Results appear in a preview modal
You select which keywords to add to your workspace
Each keyword includes:
Search volume
Difficulty
Opportunity
CPC
Temporary competitors are used only for the analysis and are not saved unless you choose to add them later.
When to Use It
This feature is best when:
You want to reverse engineer competitor success
You are entering a new niche
You want to find gaps your competitors missed
You want proof-driven keyword ideas
Smart Keyword Discovery
What This Does
Smart Keyword Discovery automatically finds new keyword opportunities based on content you have already published. This is the most hands-off and intelligent keyword generation option in SEO Rocket.
How It Works
SEO Rocket scans your last 10 published articles
Primary keywords are extracted from each article
Each keyword is expanded into related long tail variations
Location-based variations are added if your workspace uses a location
All keywords are enriched with SEO metrics
Duplicates and existing workspace keywords are removed
Quality filters are applied
SEO scores are calculated
The top keywords are automatically added to your workspace
You do not need to select keywords manually. SEO Rocket adds only the best opportunities based on scoring and relevance.
When to Use It
Use Smart Keyword Discovery when:
You already have published articles
You want your keyword strategy to grow automatically
You want to double down on topics that are already working
You prefer a fully automated workflow
Usage Limits and Quality Control
All keyword generation methods respect your keyword research usage limits. SEO Rocket checks limits before running any process.
Every method includes:
Duplicate detection
Existing keyword filtering
Live SEO data enrichment
Opportunity scoring
This ensures your keyword list stays clean, relevant, and focused on real ranking potential.
How These Work Together
The Generate Keywords menu is designed to be used over time, not just once.
A common workflow looks like this:
Start with onboarding generated keywords
Add your own ideas using Add Keywords
Build structure with Topic Clusters
Expand winning keywords using Expand Keywords
Spy on competitors for gaps
Let Smart Keyword Discovery grow your list automatically as you publish
Together, these tools turn keyword research from a one-time task into an ongoing system that improves as your site grows.
